I am an instructor in ____ and would like to learn your Gung Fu, is this possible?

YES, seminars and workshops can be scheduled for you and your students to be hosted in your school. Please contact me directly for more info.

Can I come see a class? At CSA we offer martial arts instruction in a personalized environment. Appointments are required to ensure individual attention for each student. If sincere, reach out to start this conversation as I offer a no-obligation intro session.

Do You teach children?  I teach adults and teens age 15+. Younger than this depends on availability.

Is your school Co-Ed?   Although it’s not a set in stone rule, we are primarily a men’s training hall.

Do I need to be an athlete? No. You do not need to be an athlete or have experience to get involved. You do need to want to be an athlete and have personal discipline and common sense in-order to achieve success in the physical arts.

Do you spar? Yes, we practice contact training. For the martial arts, sparring is a part of the natural process. Sparring will be introduced and maintained through a scaffolding of drills and exercises designed to help students gain proficiency. as we are primarily a striking art and bareknuckle at that, we maintain that continuous light to moderate sparring is more beneficial than hard spar and brawling on the mats. With that said we do roughhouse often.

What time is class? Currently group classes are held in the evenings during the week (mon-thurs). Private lessons are scheduled accordingly based upon availability.

How long is each class? Standard lessons range between 60 to 90 minutes.

Are there uniform requirements? No, there is no codified uniform to purchase or belts to collect. You are responsible for using personal protective equipment such as cup, mouth guard. Standard sparring equipment may be required.
Other than that, you may dress comfortably albeit appropriate. Bare foot or Low profile martial art shoes may be worn once approved for use.

We do have some brand merch available at times.

How Long until I get my black belt; I want to be a teacher? I do not have that answer. To learn martial art to the high degree takes a great deal of self determination and discipline. You will need to devote your time and energy to both intellectual study and physical training and do this consistently for time. You will need to establish yourself as above and beyond the average student. Not everyone who trains will receive a black sash and/or earn an endorsement to teach. These are high honors and will take great effort to achieve. If you train once per week in the wuguan and not at all during the week you will get the appropriate results. Do the math. Be honest with your goals and habits. Be ok with where you are at in your studies or be more active in practice. Lower expectations and RAISE STANDARDS. Time will tell the rest.

What sets you apart, why should I choose this school? At countryside arts we offer small group and private practice, this is a key factor to consider. Our training hall is a private gym – so there are no distractions- the space is dedicated. While many kung fu schools cater towards child care and/or the fantastical myths & expectations of the martial arts, we believe this is a false path – leading to poor standards. Here at CSA we focus on old-school martial arts, a path not meant for everyone. Our training methods are historically proven and passed down from teacher to student for 8 generations. this means we maintain well documented and respected lineages (chain of custody) in southern mantis and white eyebrow. To further this point, our head instructor has over 30 years of hands on study in the southern / Hakka gung fu community, daoist neigung, herbalism/ traumatology and old-time strength training. in short: We offer our students a unique opportunity to study these rare and historical martial arts, our members understand that Fighting is the path, not the destination.

Do you offer any discounts? Overall our rates are very modest and I do not require payment contracts to enroll. I do not require uniform purchases or testing/belt fees; this alone makes CSA a budget friendly investment.

Active members save substantially on private lessons and extracurricular workshops /seminars/ intensives when offered.

Active members will have access to open gym opportunities *gratis*.

If you are sincere but require financial assistance I may be willing to work something out depending on individual details. Feel free to discuss this with me in private.
